Extended Description
The Small Grants Programme is provided and administered by BBC Children in Need. Funding is intended to support voluntary and community organisations through making smaller awards for projects that can make a huge difference to the lives of children and young people throughout the UK.
The programme is keen to fund organisations that may not have previously considered applying to BBC Children in Need and those that can demonstrate bringing positive change to the lives of disadvantaged children and young people.
In particular, the programme is keen to fund work in the following areas:
* Illness, distress, abuse or neglect.
* Disability.
* Behavioural or psychological difficulties.
* Poverty and deprivation.

There are four general grant deadlines each year: 15 January, 15 April, 15 July, and 15 October.

Key Criteria
Eligible organisations must:
* Be not for profit (including registered charities, voluntary organisations, schools, local authorities, churches, social enterprises, community interest groups and universities).
* Work with disadvantaged children and young people up to the age of 18.
* Be operating for the benefit of residents in the UK, the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands.
Successful organisations will be well-managed, stable and effective and must be able to demonstrate:
* Sound financial management processes.
* A stable financial position.
* An effective management committee.
* An informed approach to safeguarding children.
* A Child Protection Policy where appropriate.
* A knowledgeable staff team.
Eligible projects must ensure that children and young people will:
* Be the primary beneficiaries of the proposed initiative.
* Experience positive change in their lives as a result of the proposed activities or services.
Eligible Expenditure:
Costs associated with eligible projects.
Priority will be given to applications which can demonstrate that this level of funding will make a substantial difference to the proposed project.
Restrictions:
Funding is not available for:
* Trips or projects abroad.
* Medical treatment or research.
* Unspecified expenditure.
* Deficit funding or the repayment of loans.
* Projects that have already taken place.
* Projects that will start later than 12 months after the grant award date.
* Distribution to other organisations.
* General appeals or endowment funds.
* Relief of statutory responsibility.
* The promotion of religion.
* Projects for pregnancy testing and advice.
* Individuals.
* Salaries.
* Capital building projects.
* Organisational overheads.
* Running costs.
* 'Top up' funding for larger projects.
Application Procedure:
Applications must be submitted online via the BBC Children in Need website.
The names of two referees (one internal and one external) must be supplied in support of each application.
