December 2009: News from NCVO - Charities to lag in recession recovery

The voluntary sector will lag behind as the rest of the country recovers from the recession, with the full impact of funding cuts yet to hit, according to our latest survey of charity leaders.

A large majority (77%) of those responding to The NCVO quarterly Charity Forecast Survey believed economic conditions would get worse for the voluntary sector next year.

This represented a small reduction of 11 percent on the survey’s most pessimistic figure from February 2009, when 88% thought the sector's economic propsects were gloomy.
