Department of Health Funding

The Department of Health is offering grants of up to £25,000 to voluntary organisations in England for new projects supporting carers. This is from a fund of £1 million as part of the government initiative to encourage carers to have a life of their own as well as their caring responsibilities.

To be eligible:
  • the project must be a new development for the organisation and not duplicate existing work
  • the project must be shown to have an effect nationally, ie be able to make a difference to the wellbeing of carers across the country, although a locally-based project which tries out new solutions which could be shared in other areas could count.
The deadline for applications is 17 November 2010; notification of decisions will be given in mid-December. The majority of the money must be spent by the end of March 2011.

You can find a full information and application pack on the Department of Health webpage. Enquiries and completed applications should be sent to SCP-Carers@dh.gsi.gov.uk or you can call the carers strategy team on
