Grants on offer to help community projects

Grants of up to £500 are being offered by the police to voluntary and community groups in North Worcestershire for projects that will help to reduce crime or improve community safety.

The grants are available through a fund being administered by West Mercia Police's North Worcestershire Division. Voluntary and community groups in the Redditch, Bromsgrove and Kidderminster areas are invited to bid for a share of £10,000 funding in 2009/10.

What types of work will be funded?
Applications must be for work which supports the key aims of West Mercia Police, in particular:
• Protecting vulnerable people
• Tackling crime and anti-social behaviour
• Reducing the harm caused by drugs and alcohol misuse

Work must take place in and benefit the residents of North Worcestershire (Bromsgrove, Redditch and Kidderminster).

Examples of initiatives that have previously been supported:
• Activities for disadvantaged young people
• Handyperson services to older people to deter doorstep crime
• Community cohesion events
• Environmental park safety improvements

Who can apply?
Applications can be made by voluntary and community groups and registered charities. All groups must have:
• A management committee or board of trustees
• A governing document
• A bank account in the name of the organisation shown in the governing document. Cheques and withdrawals must be signed by at least two people who are not related to each other.
• Groups which work with children must also have a written Child Protection Policy

How much can organisations apply for?
Organisations can apply for up to £500
Only one application can be made per organisation in any one grant round
The project must be completed and funding spent by 31 March 2010.

Applications must be received by 5pm on 31 August 2009. Emailed or faxed applications cannot be accepted.

If you require an acknowledgement that your application has been received, please complete the application acknowledgement section and enclose a stamped, addressed envelope with the application.

Condition of grants
Successful applicants will be notified in writing by 30 September 2009
Unsuccessful applications will be notified in writing after this time.

There are conditions applied to any grant that is awarded by North Worcestershire. These are detailed on a separate document (see downloads) and all organisations receiving this funding must abide by these conditions.

Any funds must be allocated and spent by the organisation by 31 March of each financial year. Funds should not be carried forward from one financial year to the next.

Each successful applicant will be required to complete a Grant Monitoring Form detailing how the grant has been spent and how the grant has benefited the work of the group. This information may be used in press and publicity issued by West Mercia Police.
