Launch of First Ever Self Help Forum in Worcestershire

Worcestershire Self Help Groups Have Your Say!

Self help support groups (SHGs) draw people together in Worcestershire to share similar experiences and offer one another practical and emotional support. People go to self help support groups for many different reasons. Some simply want information on issues of Health or Social Care and will then move on. Others may want to make sense of what is happening to them by sharing with those who have been through something similar.

This January, The Charity WAVOCC (Worcestershire Association of Voluntary Organisations in Community Care) are pleased to launch the Worcestershire Self Help Group Online Forum at www.wavoccshg.spruz.com

WAVOCC Chief Officer, Jim Smith, said, ‘The new Self Help Group Forum, has been funded through the National Lottery and Awards for All. The Forum is a place to discuss self help groups and individuals’ support needs, to gauge interest for new SHGs, and to act as a focus for all of the SHGs in Worcestershire.’ WAVOCC would like to see SHGs grow and thrive in our county, as the groups aims are to make a positive change and create social and community value.

He continued, ‘the forum is just the first step of our SHG work, and we have launched it with the question – ‘Do you feel SHGs are valued in Worcestershire?’ The second stage of this project is to research this value, and pass on the findings to funders in Worcestershire. Please do contact us if you are a member of a SHG and would like to become part of the SHG Forum Community, or would be willing to be involved in such a worthwhile project by completing a short questionnaire. You will not only be helping your own SHG, but others across the county!
