Funding Opportunities Update - May 2010

The Worcestershire Partnership is here to help and advice on bid submissions for external funding. If you are planning a project and need help finding funding, or want help filling in an application form, please contact The Funding and Resources Manager.  They will try and help you find suitable grants for your project, and signpost you to other people who may also be able to support your work. Local Grants

Community Leadership for Health Fund

The Community Leadership for Health Fund which promotes funding activities for the benefit of local projects has been extended.

The deadline has been extended to 30th June. After this date any available allocation will be withdrawn. Worcestershire LEADER Programme

Funding to support community activity in the parishes of rural Worcestershire. Are you a community group in a rural area that has a great idea that will make a real difference?

Is your community in need of a new facility or would you like to improve an existing facility?

Would you like to do something to preserve rural heritage?

Have you identified a skills gap in a rural area?

LEADER forms part of the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE), a European funding programme which runs until March 2013.

Who can apply?
Social enterprises, charities, formally constituted groups and businesses

Project applications with a focus on connecting communities and increasing the attractiveness of areas through improving access to services are encouraged, and community led initiatives are particularly welcome

How much can I apply for?
Each project can apply for up to £75,000 over 3 years

Projects should seek to identify match funding of 25% of the total (30% for projects contributing to RDPE Measure 331)

What are the criteria?
Projects must benefit populations in the rural wards of Malvern Hills, Wyre Forest and Wychavon

Projects should contribute to at least one RDPE Measure and at least one priority identified by the Local Action Group:

RDPE MEASURES

321: Setting up or improving basic services in rural communities

322: Improving village environments and provision of community areas

323: Conserving and enhancing traditional buildings and landscape

331: Training in business, ICT and traditional rural skills and diversification form agriculture

National Grants

Kerrygold Community Awards

Kerrygold, the butter brand owned by a cooperative of Irish dairy farmers, has launched the Kerrygold Community Awards. The awards are designed to encourage, support and reward people all over the UK that come together to achieve a common goal that brings benefits to a whole community. People or organisations with a good idea for a community project and who require funding may enter the Community Awards. Projects must be staffed by members of that community and the deadline for submissions is the 31st July 2010 .

BBC Children in Need (UK)

BBC Children in Need provides grants for up to three years to properly constituted not for profit organisations working with disadvantaged young people aged 18 or under. Within the BBC Children in Need grants programme, organisations can apply for Small Grants of £10,000 or less per year for up to three years and for Main Grants of over £10,000 per year for up to three years. Funding is available to organisations (including schools) that work with young people who are suffering from:

Illness
Distress
Abuse or neglect
Are disabled
Have behavioural or psychological difficulties
Are living in poverty or situations of deprivation.

Grants for Planting Trees (UK)

The Tree Council, the lead tree campaigning charity working to promote the importance of trees within the changing environment has announced that its Trees for Communities and Trees for Schools grant making programmes are now open for applications. Funds are available for schools and community groups within the UK who are able to show that children under the age of 16 will be actively engaged in the planting projects. The Tree Council are able to fund projects between £100 and £700 and successful applicants will receive up to 75% towards their planting costs. The closing date for applications has now been extended to the 10th May 2010.

One Planet Living Grant Scheme (UK)

Schools, community groups and charitable organisations can apply to their local B&Q store for funding to support a local community project. Projects must support at least one of the following themes:

· Environment/Energy Saving

· Natural Habitats/Wildlife

· Local Culture/Heritage.

The scheme provides £50 to £500 (at retail cost) of B&Q materials, for example, pond liners, plants, peat-free compost for projects such as a pond/wildlife garden or paints labelled low or minimal VOC for redecoration projects. It is important that the project is sustainable. OPL Grants do not cover maintenance, so the project should be designed for easy care.

To apply for a grant, applicants will need to contact the environmental champion or store manager at their local B&Q store to discuss project details. Projects can apply for funding between 1 February 2010 and 30 September 2010 and successful projects must collect their materials no later than 31 October 2010.

Cracking the Code (England)

Cracking the Code is a bursary Scheme from the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) to improve governance within Third Sector infrastructure organisations. The scheme offers up to £500 to improve the way that community and voluntary organisation are led and governed.

In return for the bursary the NCVO will ask organisations to write a case study and develop a method to share the knowledge and experiences with other in the local area. The deadline for applications is the 30th June 2010.
