Recommissioning of Drug and Alcohol Treatment Services for Worcestershire Consultation Event
19 May 2010, 13:02PM - 21 May 2010, 13:02PM
Drug and Alcohol Services in Worcestershire have evolved in almost an organic manner over previous years. Although current services are performing well, The Drug and Alcohol Team believe that there are further opportunities to improve provision. In order to be certain that they are making best use of public funding, they are re-tendering the services. Current providers will be welcome to bid, though they are expecting to see some differences to provision.
The Drug and Alcohol Team (DAAT) Board have made the decision that in order to improve access, especially in rural areas, they wish to see an integrated model. This means that they will be offering one contract to deliver nearly all aspects of Tiers 2 and 3 provision for all young people and adult drug and alcohol misuse services. Delivery may be by one provider or a consortium working with and led by a provider.
The DAAT are holding a consultation event at The Spadesbourne Suite, Bromsgrove District Council on Friday 21st May from 10am to 1pm, and we would welcome your contribution. We will be keen to hear what people believe are the most important aspects for a high quality local treatment system. We will be guided by national policy, though within this there is considerable opportunity to design a local response.
The DAAT will explain how they are planning to run the procurement and also how they will manage continuity of service delivery and service user expectations/ anxieties during any transitions. They will also invite comment on these arrangements. If you are able to join us, please email smatadmin@worcestershire.gov.uk with your details so they can plan for the numbers. In the event of unexpectedly high levels of, interest we will operate a first come first served system.
If you are unable to attend and wish to contribute they would be grateful if you would respond via email to smatadmin@worcestershire.gov.uk by 21st May with responses to the following questions.
1. In your opinion, what are the three best things about the current treatment system?
2. In your opinion what are the three things that most need to change in the current treatment system?
3. We will need to prioritise resources; do you feel any groups are currently underserved? This could, for example, be by age, substance or locality.
4. If we were to define the three most important features or attributes of a new treatment system, what would these be?
5. Anything else you want to tell us?
On 20th May, The DAAT will be holding a separate event to gather the views of service users. If you know people who would like to participate in this, please do inform them of it. Please see below for an attached flyer with details.
